its-me-emma asked: digital. Yeah but not many and its like mission impossible getting hold of one unless its for coursework. Would like the freedom of my own as it could come to use as i also take a level fine art and design :)
I has questions!
I was wondering if you could recommend a lens that is somewhat cheap and would be great for filming a zombie miniseries? I film with a Canon Rebel T2i.
Just the one lens, wow?! If you’re using a Canon camera and you want to stick to using Canon products then the first one that comes to the top of my head is the 50mm 1.8 as it’s fairly cheap at just under £100 and it’s not the...

couldn’t find the reply link :/ .Well maybe around £250, its only for messing around really and trying out different styles/techniques as i haven’t done much filming before. Wanted something where i could get some pretty abstract looking shots and retro ones also. (pretty user friendly also as im new to the whole shabangg) sorry for all the questions!x

Hey thanks for following me!
i take media a-level and want to try out some creative filming, where do you pull out your inspiration from??? (do you recommend any cheapish cameras?) thanksx
No worries. My inspiration comes from loads of different sources, if you’re referring to particular projects then it can range from all sorts. The last film I shot we took a lot of visual reference from other pieces, but the short I...

Live USTREAM for 550D/T2i firmware →
2, 3 & 4K on the 550D/T2i
There was a rumoured going around the Internet today that an individual shall be releasing a firmware hack for the DSLR, allowing it to record uncompressed resolutions up to 4K. I have my opinions on this but I’m curious to read the opinions of those who follow my blog. What are your thoughts guys?
Thank you!
To those of you who recommended my blog for the filmmaker’s directory I really do appreciate it. I had slowly been slipping down the ranks in the directory and I thought my attempts to keep the filmmaker’s directory full of genuine filmmakers was gradually diminishing. So thank you to those of you who recommended me and I hope you continue to enjoy my blog.

whatsyrdamagex asked: Thats awesome! Good luck with that : ) i hope you get nominated/win some awards also, its always nice to see people getting successful, gives me hope that i can as well.
Im not entirely sure on the rules of entering films into festivals, but can you only enter a movie to one festival? or can you send that movie round to every festival?

Still following me?! →
I’ve had my blog for just over a year now and it seems to be going quite well. Initially I was just using it as a means to post whatever was on my mind but I soon figured that there’s so many blogs out there like that and I wanted a bit more personality to mine so I have tried to focus it solely on my filmmaking jobs and interests. As I previously mentioned it seems to be going well so...

Here’s another video from the man who grinds my gears! These non-narrative montages really frustrate me. When it’s advertised as a short I’m always hoping that he’ll finally put something together as opposed to just a series of images but I’m yet to be shown otherwise. Maybe because he’s so highly regarded in the DSLR circuit he can be blamed for all the...

I'm back home for Xmas
I’ve been home since Tuesday afternoon and it’s been fairly relaxing after three previous films and a commercial I had been working on. I’m so glad I can put my feet up and just sit back and enjoy films, music and television for a few days. I set myself a challenge of trying to say thank you to all of you who are following me on Tumblr but I realised that it would just take...

I run a blog called http://1000filmchallenge.com and I'm on a journey to watch 1000 films in a year. The catch is that I can only watch things that are suggested to me. As someone in your position, I'm sure you must have some sweet favourite films. Would you mind making some recommendations?

areweshootingyet:
This is an interesting interview of Matthew Libatique the Director of Photography from the new film Black Swan. I had no idea they used some HDLSRs for a couple of scenes. Especially in a very tight spot (location) literally.
We used a Canon 7D or 1D Mark IV for all the subway scenes; I could just carry a 7D and shoot on the subway all day with a very small crew. I did...

Hi Gang,
I haven’t had much of a presence on here the past couple of weeks, purely because I’ve been working on films and either not had time or had no internet access. I’m now back! I’m flying home today for a few days to see my family and relax before 2011 begins and I embark on other projects. Anyway if you’re enjoying my blog then please spare a moment of your...

Day 3
It’s been a little while since I posted anything on here and that’s because a) not only have I been really busy on a shoot but b) we only managed to find out how to get onto the wifi last night so all of us are now trying to catch up with emails.
I’m out in Oxfordshire working on a short film set in the 1930’s shooting on 35mm on the Arri Moveicam Compact in an absolutely...
Loading Super 35mm
My last post was a picture of the Arri Moviecam Compact which we’re going to be using from tomorrow onwards for a short film. I posted a posted of the camera without any magazine on as I mentioned that we were waiting for a loader to put in 1,000 ft of super 35mm Kodak stock so we could do some shake tests before we shoot. Turns out the loader couldn’t make it as he was really tired...

Ridiculous question
1st AD: Jay, do we have time to set up another shot?
Me (Focus Puller): I have no idea, do we?
That is a perfect example of how unorganised this shoot is. The 1st AD is asking me about timing when my job is purely camera related, dismissing anything time related except for when I eat and also when I go home.
Call time
I’m currently working on a short and the call times are such a joke. We keep being told to get here for 7:30am (unit call) and theoretically we should begin work at 7:30am, 8:00am if that was breakfast call but the two seemed to have merged. Anyway, yesterday I arrived prompt and on time only to sit on a sofa for nearly 2 hours. I really hope today isn’t like that as this is only an...

Guys, I’ve accumulated a fair few followers since I began using Tumblr and I’d like to introduce to you another filmmaker who I have worked with on numerous occasions and plan to continue working with. This is Julian, he’s worked as an AC for me a couple of times, he’s new to Tumblr and he’s hardworking so play nice!
